The Oldest Walls We Cut
Fells Point has the oldest housing stock in our service area — homes going back to the 1700s and 1800s, with stone and brick foundations laid by hand. Cutting an egress opening in a 200-year-old wall is slow, careful work: the stone is irregular, the mortar is soft, and the wall above needs proper support before a single stone comes out. We have the patience for it. If a contractor quotes your Fells Point foundation like a modern poured wall, get a second opinion.
Historic Character, Modern Safety
Fells Point homeowners care about how their homes look — and so do we. The egress window goes in the rear wall, out of sight from the street. The well sits low against the house. From the cobblestone street, nothing changes. From the basement, everything changes: daylight, a legal bedroom, and a way out. Historic homes deserve modern safety; the two are not in conflict.
Flooding and the Point
The Point floods — everyone who lives here knows it. That makes well drainage critical: a well that ponds water against a 150-year-old foundation is asking for trouble. We build Fells Point wells with full drainage and covers that shed the rain, and we grade the small rear spaces to move water away from the house.
